The 3 Real Reasons Youre Getting Radio Silence After the Final Interview

The 3 Real Reasons You're Getting Radio Silence After the Final Interview Creator's Note: This administrator and the whole HR division of Brewer Science, Inc. follow best practices for recruiting up-and-comers, including moral norms, decent variety and incorporation, and all Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) government guidelines. You were flown in for an in-person meet, where you got the opportunity to meet and become more acquainted with the group. It went extraordinary! … or so you thought, however it's been longer than a month since you've gotten notification from the employing supervisor. The activity posting is still open, and HR said they'd hit you up inside about fourteen days. What happened? From your perspective, it looks the organization where you were so eager to work may have ghosted you, however what appears as though radio quiet to you is presumably a whirlwind of errands for the recruiting supervisor to finish before you can be offered the position. Peruse on to see some regular reasons why you haven't heard back and what to do next.1. I t's not youâ€"it's me.Maybe this was a badly designed time for your prospective manager. Maybe they crushed in your meeting not long before taking some time off. It's super-advantageous for the director, yet it's not all that helpful for you, since you have no chance to get of thinking about the movement. When the administrator returns, they'll walk through all the email from the most recent couple of weeks, until they get to the area of HR messages that state, We despite everything need a choice on this person! It could likewise be that interior correspondence has been indistinct. When the employing administrator has concluded they might want to stretch out a proposal to you, that supervisor needs to contact HR. … Or was it HR that should development? Did anybody in HR convey an email to explain? Gary, might you be able to meet up and discover where we are? These circumstances happen effectively in a bustling organization environment. If you think the meeting went extraordinary a nd were anticipating the offer, trust your gut. It could be inner formality and messages that haven't associated. Be certain, and stay positive.2. Fess up: did you adorn a bit? (A lot?)Senior administrators at Hewlett-Packard have recommended that ladies will go after a position when they meet most, if not all, of the necessities of an occupation posting, while men are happy with applying at much lower levels of capability. I would say, the two people who feel ailing in a particular territory will discover approaches to make one pertinent detail in their list of references into the core of their whole application. On paper, an occupation up-and-comer can skate to the following round utilizing this strategy, however face to face, you might be required to talk about this subject finally and portray how you would utilize that experience to move the organization forward. You might be happy to gain proficiency with the abilities you need, yet on the off chance that the supervisor specula tes that your list of qualifications is an untruth, they won't recruit you. You're in an ideal situation with genuineness. On the off chance that you just meet 60% of the capabilities and necessities of a vocation posting, the recruiting director will concentrate on the reasons why you consider you are a decent qualified for the activity and ask whether you would be available to learning the aptitudes that the activity requires.3. You're not exactly what we're looking forAs the supervisor of a multidisciplinary group, I select interesting up-and-comers who are by one way or another not the same as the remainder of my group, however this sort of group building can imply that, in spite of an extraordinary list of references and a heavenly meeting, I may feel that your instruction and experience are excessively like the expert foundation of another colleague. The way that you see your experience isn't effectively imparted in a list of references yet is discernable once you're talking w ith the group. At the point when a scout says, Your character was certainly not a solid match, a group dynamic like this could be at play. Unfortunately, there are likewise poisonous situations that separate during the meeting procedure, particularly once they see what an up-and-comer resembles and how she talks, yet you can utilize this information to get a foot in the entryway. Check web-based social networking represents the organization and discover genuine pictures of the organization's socioeconomics. How would they dress? What do they accomplish for the sake of entertainment? In case you're a female Millennial with a tattoo sleeve yet online life shows that the organization cosmetics is larger part white male beyond 60 a years old, can be set up with a dark jacket and a smooth updo. It's not reasonable or right that you ought to be the one to conform to land the position, however this is a domain that sustains. When you have the activity, at that point begin changing the way of life from within. Where do you go from here? On the off chance that it's been a month you despite everything need to be an individual from this group, go email your HR contact! Fourteen days is sufficient time for most organizations to settle on a choice, so check in. Make it a short note: Thank you again for your time during my meeting on [DATE]. In the event that you've gotten an opportunity to meet up with [hiring manager], I would value knowing whether they have gone to a choice or in the event that they have any further inquiries. Wanna be gutsy? You can likewise toss in a line about having different proposals to consider. It quickens the scheduleâ€"yet could likewise be a prompt dismissal. In the event that you have a telephone number, use it! You may get a genuine individual to pick up the telephone. Be readied and amenable, and leave behind any eagerness. Attempt your karma! The most exceedingly terrible they can say is no. - - Dr. Amanda Riojas is an independent author a nd computational scientific expert living in Austin, Texas. Five Questions Melissa Ross On Broadcast Media

Five Questions: Melissa Ross on Broadcast Media I meet people all the time who ask for recommendation about transitioning to a new field. In this occasional collection, I’ll ask associates with cool jobs 5 questions on how they obtained to the place they are today. This post options Melissa Ross, host of WJCT’s First Coast Connect. 1. Did you at all times know you needed to work in your field? Was yours a straight course, or did you again into / fall into a job that led you to the career? Yes- I anchored a closed-circuit TV newscast at my high school and I studied journalism and communications in faculty. I actually left broadcast journalism for a number of years earlier than going again into it. I worked in public relations for some time and learned an unbelievable amount. 2. What ability is probably the most useful one you developed in your success? Was it a skill you learned at school / college, or one you learned on the job? If you had asked me this 10 or 20 years in the past I would have probably said my writing capabilit y was most necessary. But as I have gotten older I have discovered (typically the onerous means) that people expertise are even more important. Being capable of actually hear what the other individual is saying, where they’re coming from. Seeking first to grasp, earlier than being understood. This is a ability set that's very important in any occupation. Note: People often suppose that broadcasting is generally about speaking. My expertise with reporters is that the most effective ones know the way to listen in addition to they communicate. three. What do you want you knew then (early in your career) that you know now? When you’re younger you've a lot to prove. You are eager to point out everybody how good you are. I would tell my youthful self to be more self-effacing and seek the counsel of the older, wiser individuals around me. The older I get, the smarter they get! You also be taught that life isn’t truthful. The finest individual doesn’t at all times get the job. As yo u become old, you turn into far more philosophical about that. 4. What is the largest misperception about your profession or trade? That it’s high-paying! Note: It’s a painful reality about many glamorous jobs: competition is fierce, and gifted people transfer round from metropolis to metropolis for years to discover a market that pays well or get their likelihood at a national slot. 5. What advice would you give somebody contemplating going into this subject? Read everything. Study. Be intellectually curious in regards to the world. Treat life like a giant faculty. Melissa says: “I assume folks assume my job is simple, glamorous and fun. While it IS fun, it’s type of like the duck easily swimming alongside a lake with seemingly no effort however his webbed toes are furiously padding beneath. I spend plenty of time researching, reading, doing “show prep” for my visitors. Also, you have to be very disciplined about time. You should hit sure deadlines and “marks” daily to produce an hour-lengthy program. You also have to be versatile and nimble when issues disintegrate or fall through. I gained that discipline over 20 years of meeting every day deadlines in TV news. So finally I am a ‘content provider,’ and it’s difficult however rewarding to produce compelling content- a high quantity- underneath tight deadlines.” Summary: Hitting your marks daily â€" and making it look effortless to the casual audience member â€" is a challenging method to make a residing. It takes hours of preparation and exhausting work to provide each couple of minutes of live broadcast media. If you suppose you’re a “natural,” congratulations. Only 10,000 hours of apply to go. Five situations when you shouldnt change careers

Five circumstances when you shouldnt change vocations In numerous regards, changing vocations resembles dumping your better half. Its much simpler to do than tackling the issues youre confronting. Be that as it may, in such a significant number of cases, difficult work and self-information could take care of the vast majority of the issues. What's more, I have found in the two vocations and connections that on the off chance that I get past a predicament, I adapt much more about myself and the world than if I had left and begun once again. I definitely know the beginning once again routine well overall. In any case, I dont know such a great amount about the staying with it schedule. Every one of us is likely better at either. On the off chance that you are incredible at beginning once again, yet not all that good at staying with it, I cannot assist you with your better half, however I can assist you with your profession. Here are five circumstances when you ought not change professions. 1. You despise your chief. This isn't an issue with your profession. Change employments as opposed to evolving vocations. Or then again, show signs of improvement at dealing with your manager to get the treatment you need. 2. You need more renown. Get an advisor youre having a certainty emergency, not a lifelong emergency. Distinction is an empty objective with regards to professions. The journey for intriguing, fun, compensating work is a certain something, yet the mission for distinction is, truth be told, awful for you inwardly. 3. You need to meet new individuals. Take a stab at setting off to a bar, or Club Med. Is the issue that you can't make companions in your industry? It would need to be a really little industry for this to not be your own, social issue rather than an industry-wide issue. Be straightforward with yourself: Maybe what you truly need is to find something useful to do. Get a pastime. 4. You need all the more significance throughout everyday life. Work doesn't give life meaning. Furthermore, at any rate, individuals have been scanning for the importance of life until the end of time. Its a profoundly contested theme, and most likely too charged an issue to lay on your profession. 5. You need more bliss. I have said commonly that your activity doesn't control your bliss, your psyche does. Heres uplifting news, however: You can give your psyche a more joyful aura by reflecting. I like that there is science behind this (much obliged, Dylan). In any case, I was a contemplation convert as a volleyball player, before I knew the science. Probably the most ideal approaches to show your body how to accomplish something, incidentally, is to watch yourself doing it consummately, in your brain. I instructed myself to bounce serve by envisioning the serve in my mind. I isolated the serve into twenty movements. Furthermore, I envisioned them all. A great many occasions. (Pause, look: I am so satisfied to have discovered this video of hop serving.) Be that as it may, you cannot hop serve if youre tense. So I needed to figure out how to quiet my body through contemplation while I envisioned the hop serves. Every night I contemplated, and as opposed to concentrating on the conventional om serenade, I concentrated ready. That was my preferred piece of my entire volleyball profession. This is the means by which I realize that you can make yourself like your profession better any vocation by contemplating: another explanation you dont need to change vocations.

3 Ways to Negotiate Better in Your Everyday Life

3 Ways to Negotiate Better in Your Everyday Life As a music industry veteran of very nearly 25 years, including the last 13 as leader of my own organization MAC Presents, I've haggled over a hundred multi-faceted arrangements in the interest of brands including Citi, ATT, Microsoft, Samsung and Southwest just as for prominent craftsmen like Chance the Rapper, Foo Fighters, Keith Urban, Khalid and the Rolling Stones. Throughout the years, I've obtained a great deal of tips that I've had the option to apply to my own life too. Regardless of whether it's a prospective employee meeting, applying for protection or simply wheeling and dealing over a link charge, exchanges can be scary. Yet, understanding the worth that you bring to the table can open colossal influence, and help resuscitate an in any case impasse discussion. Know Your Worth â€" and Know How to Sell It There's nothing more off-placing in a business managing than urgency. To keep up a high ground, consistently stroll into an arrangement with a sharp feeling of your special range of abilities and significance to a possible boss or customer's business. Else you could unfavorably affect your last terms, and wind up taking an arrangement that essentially underestimates your value. In the event that an association is truly intended to occur, the two gatherings ought to be happy to battle to oversee it. For instance, when a business says, What are your pay necessities? consistently quote them a number that is in any event 10% higher than your present compensation. Else you'll begin your arrangement at a possible deficiency and you will be unable to recapture influence once you've demonstrated your hand. This ensures your value, and causes you leave an inappropriate chance. Continuously Reject the First Offer Tolerating a proposal at face worth can regularly direct the distinction between an exchange and an organization â€" or on account of work, the contrast between an occupation and a vocation. Not long ago, I was working with Forever 21 in the interest of one of our craftsman customers, artist lyricist Khalid. He had recently discharged his introduction collection American Teen and I felt it talked impeccably to Forever 21's intended interest group. Without the guide of a Top 40 single at that point, the collection appeared in the main 10 of the Billboard 200 collection outline in its first week, giving him a solid buzz that we knew would just keep on taking off consistently. At first, Forever 21 needed to cooperate with us and Khalid on a program that would make him the computerized face of the brand's mid year men's assortment, utilizing the brand's 10 million+ email supporters and site. While that offer would have given Khalid gigantic presentation at an essential time when he expected to construct his image and attention to offer passes to his first significant feature visit and dispatch his next single, it felt like we were just starting to expose what we could do together. Through a progression of arrangements, we had the option to make sure about Khalid the first-historically speaking craftsman represetative arrangement for two successive assortments â€" men's mid year and fall. It was a piece of a bigger organization that presently remembered for store signage, a fan occasion in Los Angeles highlighting an uncommon presentation, various internet based life takeovers, advanced video boards in exceptionally obvious areas like New York's Times Square, and extra income streams for Khalid through the offer of select product. By persuading Forever 21 to dramatically increase their underlying spending plans and make their dollars work more diligently, Khalid had the option to bridle the presentation to graduate to the following level as a visiting craftsman â€" his American Teen feature visit sold out in days. How No Now Can Mean Yes Down the Line Pretty much every arrangement that I have chipped away at during my 20-year profession in the business has begun with a no and I've needed to transform that into a yes by making sense of what the two sides need and characterize as a win. A great deal of times I state I deal with sake of the arrangement â€" on the off chance that the two sides are unsettled, at that point there is no arrangement. What's more, this goes for ordinary chances, as well. On the off chance that a potential boss turns down your underlying pay necessities or your business bundle, don't down from your standard needs. When they understand that you're really great fit for the position, don't be astonished on the off chance that they return around. In case you're not ready to battle for your worth, for what reason would it be a good idea for anyone to else? Marcie Allen is president and organizer of MAC Presents, a New York-based music sponsorship and experiential office.

The Power of Punctuation - Copeland Coaching

The Power of Punctuation Your words are an incredibly powerful business tool that you use each and every day. This is especially true during your job search. Not surprisingly, the punctuation around those words can be just as important as the words themselves. You may have heard me preach before about the space that appears after a period at the end of a sentence. Did you know that its now unacceptable to include two spaces after a period? The new standard is one space after the period. If youre like me, your teachers engrained double spacing in you as if your entire future depended on it. You can’t imagine a world with one space after a period. To make matters worse, when the standard changed to one space, no memo was sent around. Unfortunately, those who were taught to use one space judge the double spacers. Its assumed that a lack of intelligence must be to blame. This feeling is confirmed in an article I recently read titled, “For the Love of God, Stop Putting Two Spaces After a Period.” Now, that’s passion. Don’t you think? I learned this single spacing lesson the hard way, from the kind editors who review my column each week. The editor of my book had also shared the feedback with me, but I was so certain about the double space that I ignored this advice until I heard it multiple times. It still surprises me how much these small details influence the reader’s interpretation of the overall message. On top of spaces, there are other punctuation marks that should be used carefully. The most important is the exclamation point! If you use an exclamation point at all in business emails, try to keep them to a maximum of one to two per email. Its possible to show excitement through your writing without an overuse of this mark. Using too many will make you appear overly eager, immature, or as if you’re yelling. Keep smiley faces and other emoji-like characters out of work emails completely if possible. These are best used between friends. Using them at work can make you appear unprofessional at best. So, which punctuation marks should you use? The most used punctuation mark is the period. Other marks that can be mixed in are the question mark, the comma, the colon, and the semicolon. These marks will help you to express your thoughts in an even, business-like way. Writing an effective business email is truly an art. It takes time and practice to come across clearly and concisely on a computer screen. Using punctuation to your advantage is the very first step to getting there. In fact, the better your communication is at work, the more likely you are to move your ideas forward. And, the more you’re able to champion your own ideas, the more you’ll find that the doors to your career open. Although punctuation can seem like a silly detail, it’s something that’s relatively easy to improve and that will leave a lasting impact. Heres why you should pay yourself first

Here's the reason you should pay yourself first Here's the reason you should pay yourself first You've most likely heard pay yourself initial a ton. I've said it ordinarily via web-based networking media and to my customers. In any case, do you know what that really implies? I'm here to show you, while additionally clarifying how and why you ought to do it.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders' magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more! What is paying yourself first?Paying yourself first implies that when you get paid, you first take care of every one of your tabs (counting obligation), at that point you add to retirement, and afterward you put cash into investment funds (or towards different objectives). After you've finished each one of those means, you would then be able to begin burning through cash on different things like food supplies, diversion, gas, and so forth. This is called paying yourself first since you're putting your cash towards your own objectives and needs before doing whatever else with it.Why shou ld you pay yourself first? We will in general take care of the entirety of our tabs, spend our cash on things we need and need, and afterward spare what is left finished. Shockingly, that procedure isn't extremely successful. Why? Since there's normally nothing left! In the event that you pay yourself first, every one of your bases will be concealed front, and you can spend what you have left without stressing or feeling awful over yourself. This makes it simpler and almost certain that you will reach your financial objectives since you're organizing them. How would you be able to pay yourself first?1. Make a budgetI've said it a million times previously, and I'm stating it once more: you need a spending plan. Also, it ought to be a spending that works for you (discover how to do as such here). Your spending will delineate the entirety of your costs and salary, with the goal that you can make sense of the amount you have accessible to put towards your objectives. From that point, you can pick the number(s) that you'll pay yourself first.2. Exploit pre-charge offeringsMany managers offer a retirement investment funds alternative, similar to a 401k or 403b. In the event that (when) you pick into that offering, your manager will deduct the sum from your check before charges are taken out. This is helpful for two reasons: your available pay is lower and you don't need to consider adding to your retirement. Additionally you frequently get a match from your manager, which is free cash! There are other pre-charge alternatives, as well, such as adding to a wellbeing bank account or a metro card. Take advantage!3. Robotize when possibleI must pressure this as much as possible. Mechanization is vital. You don't need to consider moving your cash, and it turns into a propensity, so you don't miss the cash so a lot. You're likewise much bound to really spare when you computerize it (since you can't spend it first). So set up direct store from your check into an investment ac count, or set it up with the goal that your bank moves your cash for you. You'll be astonished how rapidly your reserve funds will develop when you do this.4. Reconsider oftenSometimes, your conditions change, regardless of whether for better or in negative ways. In the event that you get a raise, you can pay yourself more! Which implies you can expand your retirement commitment, obligation reimbursement, or investment funds sum. By doing this first, you can dodge pay creep, and reach (or outperform) your objectives quicker. Then again, on the off chance that you lose your employment, or roll out an improvement that outcomes in less salary, you may need to bring down the amount you can spare. You need to be cognizant and reasonable of what you can manage, and make modifications as important. So ensure you rethink your circumstance at whatever point things may change. How do you pay yourself first? Has it worked for you? Offer in the comments! This article initially showed up on Maggie Germano.com .

Week four boardrooms, break-outs and Bon Jovis greatest hits

Week four boardrooms, break-outs and Bon Jovi’s greatest hits by Michael Cheary Week four: boardrooms, break-outs and Bon Jovi’s greatest hitsOur interns are now halfway through their eight week internship here at reed.co.uk. In their first month they’ve learned a lot about how the business operates. Unfortunately, they may not have learned anything about good music. Here’s how they  got on at the halfway point:AndrewWoaah, We’re Halfway There! If my aim was to use as many clichéd terms as possible within three to four hundred words, then yes, time has been flying by for us interns.  To think that we’ve been here for so long and have been able to accomplish so much this past month makes the 4 weeks we have left seem daunting, but also something to look forward to.While I was at university, I was always concerned that I would never be qualified enough to do any sort of professional internship it takes me ages to read a balance sheet, finance can be a foreign language, and ‘Business Analyst’ was a title that seemed much too esteemed for what I thought I was capable of.  Truth be told, however, the skills that we have ended up using the most as interns is more often than not just a natural curiosity and drive to get a project done.Come up with more ways reed.co.uk can create entry points for new candidates?  Well first we have to go discover what kind of demographics they already have and what they don’t have.  Map the touch points all of our customers’ experience using journey mapping?  Another process and technique we have to acquaint ourselves with and figure out.  Want to see how reed.co.uk should be marketing to the next group of adults entering the workforce?  Then we first have to read up on studies done about Generation Z before making a recommendation.Being a new starter in a company is scary you think of how it’s going to work out and whether or not you’re going to meet expectations.  However, it’s been reassuring to figure out that one doesn’t always need to have the best technical background to be the best intern â€" putting the hours in often pays the biggest dividends. Now excuse me, I need to go get some Bon Jovi out of my head.StephanieAgile. Scrum. CX. Sprints. Daily stand ups. Break-outs. Scrum Master. So many foreign words from the reed.co.uk dictionary are being introduced to me on this internship. I’ve gone from awkwardly nodding my head and smiling in meetings to actually understanding the office terminology. I must say, understanding the practical implementations of these words does make you feel like you’ve unlocked a secret safe of knowledge here at reed.co.uk.Understanding the language was stage one, and now I’ve reached the next level: applying these various terminologies to our projects. Shadowing Sprint meetings and analysing the effectiveness of customer experience has given me new insight on how so many projects are tackled at once!Who would’ve thought, everything from stand ups to project demos actually do increase effici ency and productivity within the company. Okay, I know I’m showing off with the use of all of this jargon but believe me, I have earned my badge to do so! Excuse me as I’m off to a Sprint meeting, and don’t want to keep the Scrum Master waiting.Until next week world.AllyIt was cold in the boardroom last Wednesday. Whether it was the nerves or the air conditioning I don’t know, but it was cold and my fellow interns and I were sweating, despite the chill. We were presenting to a select handful of our colleagues at reed.co.uk, and the subject was jobseekers. The content of our presentation could have revolutionised the company or fluttered away meaninglessly like playing cards in the wind. It was game on.Fortunately we did our research. We unveiled our findings, spoke of our insights, and had conversation for dessert. It was a good hour. The presentation is where all the hard work here at Reed Online pays off. Like a lot of upstanding citizens we, the interns, value positive fee dback as one of the main benchmarks of success. An engaged audience and a sincere expression of gratitude are all we need to gauge the merit of collective hours spent tapping at our netbooks. So either we’re doing well or the staff at Reed Online are inordinately polite.Next week Wednesday, same time, same place, the stakes get bigger and the audience larger: we’re presenting a heftier project that took us more time to stitch together. All we can hope on is the enduring deference of our audience.ConnorAfter last week’s escapades, as you can imagine, I have become a bit more frugal â€" which means lunches have now been limited to the Sainsbury’s salad bar.On the subject of my work here at reed.co.uk, considering last week’s blog failed to have any relevance to it, I believe I have some catching up to do. These past two weeks have undoubtedly picked up pace. I’m not quite sure if this is because I have developed a routine, or just an addiction to caffeine let’s go with r outine. It is unquestionable that I have developed my computer/technical skills during my work over the past couple of weeks. And I am happy to say that I actually look forward to completing the various daily tasks that have been moulded into my routine, mainly because there’s a real sense of purpose and relevance to my particular interests and skillset.Yes, some tasks are repetitive (transferring customer contacts between databases anyone?), but I find myself completing the repetitive tasks as fast as possible and following up with the perennial intern favourite: ‘is there anything else you want me to do?’. Hey, sometimes pro-activity counts…Until next week. YaseenTo My Beloved Audience,I must dismally report that this fourth week blog marks the halfway point of my internship and, more importantly, my world famous blog. I am sure you desk-dwellers will find new avenues and mediums of entertainment in my absence, but I take solace in the fact that you will never find a more en tertaining array of Intern emotions so freely displayed.   I am writing this blog fresh off of my office drug of choice, Board Room Presentation Adrenaline, or rather BPA. I’m not sure why the R is not included in this acronym, nonetheless; it does not affect the chest pounding effects and its ability to instil superiority complexes within its abusers.Highs aside, I am beginning to dread the day when I must say bye to this office, and its lovely inhabitants. In the hopes that you will keep an open mind and ignore my naïveté, I can no longer restrain my emotions and must yell through my keyboard that my intern life at reed.co.uk is in fact better than 95% of all other internships.  I had to leave five percent for the select few and undeniably superior position of interning at Victoria’s Secret…I cannot tell you the satisfaction that comes with giving board room presentations every week, or having a work environment where we are surrounded by the technological superfluous wh ich only the likes of Google so often brag about.  Excuse the Disney channel theme propagation, but, I must say it is so truly rewarding to know that our work in analyzing various facets of the company are actually being used to adjust company procedures/products.  Unless of course it has been somehow possible that the ENTIRE reed.co.uk team is in on some plot to make us feel important, in which case, I would still commend them for such a unified and unwavering effort.I promise to unearth the truth behind reed.co.uk and in true detective fashion I will insist on taking my coffees shaken, not stirred.  You can be rest assured, as always, that I will keep my lovely audience up to speed on the latest. The interns have finished week four. Stay tuned to see how they get on in the coming weeks.Find a job What Where Search JobsSign up for more Career AdviceSign up for moreCareer Advice Please enter a valid email addressmessage hereBy clicking Submit you agree to the terms and condi tions applicable to our service and acknowledge that your personal data will be used in accordance with our privacy policy and you will receive emails and communications about jobs and career related topics. Life Experiences Seperate Successful Leaders From Followers - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Life Experiences Seperate Successful Leaders From Followers - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career When I was growing up, I was always intrigued by how successful people got to where they were. I desperately asked some business colleagues, but did not receive the answers I requested. In this search, my thirst for knowledge was never quenched, until I stumbled upon a book called From the Sandbox to the Corner Office that relieved me. With insights and honesty from business legends, this book explores the experiences of those who learned by making mistakes and by grasping opportunities. About the Author Eve Tahmincioglu is the Your Career columnist for MSNBC.com, the author of the book Im holding in that picture, as well as a blogger. She understands the importance and demand for blogging as a supplement to traditional journalism and even offers a mailing list, so people can keep up with her hectic life. She’s a regular contributor to the New York Times and BusinessWeek’s SmallBiz magazine. Eve has also bought her domain name or shall I say personal brand website. With 20 years of experience writing about workplace issues and hosting daily newspapers from New York to Florida, Eve has seen it all and shares her experience daily. You Think You Know Them But You Have No Idea! In the book, 50 executives are profiled, but Im going to stick with the biggest and most reputable personal brands for this review. Richard Parsons, CEO of Time Warner: His dream job is to be a piano bar player. Pernille Spiers-Lopez, President of IKEA North America: Her first job as an adult was a tour guide. Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way: He is afraid of failure more than anything else. Ralph de la Vega, COO of Cingular Wireless: The person he respects more than anyone is Martin Luther King Jr. Christie Hefner, CEO of Playboy Enterprises: Her bad habit is rushing and her good one is trying to always be kind. Now for lessons learned Parsons: A great leader doesnt need people revering him or her. A leader needs to develop a trust with subordinates so they can readily disclose bad news. Pernille: You have to accept that working your way up the ladder is American way of doing business. Its not always about connections. Brian: Focus on the job at hand, not advancement, if you truly want to be successful. Ralph: If you dont take a chance and leave your comfort zone you will not be able to advance in your career and your life. Christie: Keep your smart, on-the-ball rivals close so you can have the best team around you and learn from their expertise. There is way more where that came from, but I dont want to ruin the book for you. If you have an appetite for success, you must read this book.

Israel for the Solo Woman Traveler - Things to Know

Israel for the Solo Woman Traveler - Things to Know If you want the short answer â€" solo female Israel travel is completely safe. Israel is a cosmopolitan and liberal country, but (and there is a but) in some areas you need to behave with caution because of the political situation and presence of ultra-religious Jews and Muslims. You will be able to move around freely and safely in almost all parts of the country. Israel is the most Westernized and only democratic country in the Middle East. If you’re planning to travel further in the Middle East then Israel is a great introduction to the region’s ethnic peculiarities. Most likely your trip to Israel will be fun, sun and amazing experiences in exotic and ancient cities. But just to be on the safe side it is important to look at the potential dangers and be aware of how to avoid getting into trouble. Life in Israel is probably a lot safer than in Europe or America simply because there is such a lot of security in Israel. There are security checks at supermarkets, malls, schools, museums etc. The general risk of danger from typical crimes is low in Israel. The country is relatively safe in terms of muggings, drunken violence etc. You just need to use the same common sense as you would when traveling to any western country. Don’t totally trust strangers, don’t drink too much, behave respectfully and don’t go down any dark alleys by yourself in the middle of the night! The Israeli Personality 101 You can forget about the image of the submissive, male-controlled women of the Middle East. In Israel the women are on a par with men, they are proud, educated, strong, vocal and independent. Israelis tend to be more outgoing, louder and forthcoming than travelers from the west are used to. Israelis have no problem staring at you and striking up a conversation; it is a matter of different social norms. It is also a great opportunity to get to know the locals. If you are not interested in getting the unwanted attention then ignore any over-friendly approaches, don’t make eye contact and keep walking. If you want to avoid unsolicited attention on the beach then stick to the more popular beaches and don’t go wandering along non-central empty beaches where you could be isolated alone with an unwanted stranger making romantic overtures. Israeli men are notorious flirts; if you’re not interested let them know up front. Israeli men may seem overbearing and project a macho image. The language barrier can make their flirting seem blunt and even rude but for the most part the soft heart of the Israeli may be just lost in the translation. In fact their direct approach to asking girls out and telling them what they think can be quiet refreshing.  Knowing Where You’ll Be Safe It is wise to check out your country’s government website for foreign travel advice about safety in Israel before you leave home. The advice is usually very general like “keep vigilant and follow advice of the security forces.” Israel is a country with a unique political and geographical situation where danger tends to be in specific areas of the country. Don’t let this put you off as it does tend to sound like all doom and gloom which it really isn’t. Most government websites recommend not traveling to Gaza; within 500 meters of the Lebanese border (the Blue Line) and east of route 98 along the Syrian border. The US government strongly warns against travel to the Gaza Strip. If traveling to the West Bank you need to take special precautions. There have been attacks on vehicles traveling along route 60 which connects Jerusalem to Hebron and Nablus within the West Bank. The Qlaandiya checkpoint between East Jerusalem and Ramallah, Jenin and areas close to refugee camps should be avoided. Other areas to think twice about visiting are Ramallah, Jericho (unless with a guided tour) and areas close to the Gaza strip. Avoid the Old City of Jerusalem at night if you are alone. During the day you should be able to travel in the Old City on your own without any problem. Friday afternoons in the West Bank, Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem and Muslim religious sites are particularly sensitive times when unrest could occur at short not ice. If you want to go to an area where you are nervous to go alone then use one of the Israeli tourism services like Bein Harim Tours which take tours to many destinations across the country including the West Bank, Bethlehem, Nazareth and across the border to Petra in Jordan. If your travel in Israel is limited to the tourist destinations â€" Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Dead Sea, Sea of Galilee, Acre, Nazareth, Bethlehem or Eilat you need only concern yourself with common sense safety precautions for a solo female traveler. However if you plan on venturing into the occupied territories, West Bank or the areas mentioned above then you need to take further precautions because of the unique character of the Middle East. A Few More Tips for Solo Israel Travel Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance and always make sure that someone knows where you are at all times especially if you are making a trip into the West Bank. When visiting religious sites (whether they are Jewish or Muslim) like Mea Shearim, Temple Mount, Western Wall etc dress modestly. This means your shoulders should be covered and pants or skirts below the knee. For some sites you may need a head covering. If you are not going to any religious areas then you can wear whatever you want â€" tank tops, shorts etc. and no one will look twice. People do hitchhike in Israel but it is not recommended for solo female travelers.  Respect local customs â€" stay in the women’s section of the prayer area by the Western Wall; dress appropriately; don’t take photos at Jewish religious sites on Shabbat or religious holidays; don’t blatantly eat non-kosher food in front of religious Jews and ask before you take someone’s photo.
